Glasgow
Croquet Club
Welcome

Thank you for visiting the Glasgow Croquet Club web site.

We are happy to welcome all who are interested in the game, from complete beginners to first class players.

We play all versions of Association Croquet, as well as Golf Croquet and the club meets every Tuesday afternoon from 1pm at Alexandra Park. Click here for directions.

Games can be arranged at any time by members.

Croquet has long suffered from the images depicted in the  “Alice in Wonderland” game, with flamingos and hedgehogs, or Victorian garden parties with ladies in crinoline.

In fact, croquet was very popular in the 19th century in both Scotland and England and Wimbledon was established as a croquet club with some tennis courts. The “new” game of tennis rapidly displaced croquet and very little croquet was played in Scotland in the first half of the 20th century. There has been a revival since about 1950 (see history page) and many people have found that it is a most enjoyable sport, which can be played by anyone from 9 to 90 (and beyond). The latest (and now largest) club was established at Dundonald in 2002, showing what can be achieved.

If you would like to lean more and try your hand at croquet, come along on a Tuesday afternoon.

If this is not convenient, send us an email and an alternative can be arranged. All you need to bring is a pair of flat-soled shoes - all equipment will be provided by the club
